Soft, serrated leaves are distinctively and strongly aromatic. White flowers are followed by brown seeds.

The leaves and stems are used to flavour a wide range of dishes. The seeds can be used whole or ground as a spice.

Grow in a partly shaded position in moist, well drained soil.
