Camellia japonica 'Pope john XXIII'
A dense, upright, vigorous japonica producing large, white, formal double flowers with beautifully textured petals. Large, evergreen shrub with attractive, glossy, green, thick foliage. Large, showy flowers bloom in early winter to mid spring. Early morning sun in a partly shaded position. Shelter from the hot afternoon sun and wind. Can be planted under large trees. Dense shaded restricts flowering. Well drained, slightly acidic soil. Before planting combine soil with organic matter for best results. Keep moist especially in hot, dry weather. Mulch with compost, leaf mould or other organic matter to keep roots cool. Do not allow mulch to touch the trunk. May be lightly pruned to shape in spring. Feed in spring with a specific camellia fertiliser or a complete organic fertiliser.
