Used as a medicinal plant in southern Asia, this is a low growing, spreading, perennial ground cover with heart-shaped leaves and small, inconspicuous, pale pink flowers.

Herbalists claim eating two leaves a day gives relief from arthritic pain.

Best eaten fresh, as a salad garnish or added to stir-fry and rice dishes. A useful ground cover and easily grown in containers.

Prefers a cool, moist position in semi-shade but will tolerate sun.

When grown in moist, sheltered positions, the flavour of the leaves is less bitter when grown in the open. Keep moist in dry weather.

Apply liquid fertiliser during the growing season for best results.
