Allium sativum

White cloves grow around a central woody stalk and are juicier and larger than white garlic. All this is encased in a purple hued papery skin.

Thrives in a sunny open position in very well drained friable soil.

Water regularly while bulbs are growing and forming but stop once the tops begin to brown. For best results plant into a good organic compost.

Contains good levels of vitamin C, high levels of iodine and is a good source of vitamin B6. Helps  ease cold symptoms and also has antiviral and anti bacterial properties.

The bulbs should be lifted in late summer once the foliage has died down and allowed to dry in the sun before storing.
