The Hayward male does not bear fruit yet is required for cross-pollination with the female. One male will pollinate up to six females. Both sexes are required to produce fruit. 

Prefers a sunny open position in rich well-drained soil.

Water regularly during flowering and fruiting seasons. 

Apply an all-purpose fertiliser in spring, summer and autumn. 

In winter prune damaged and old wood.

Provide support and mulch well.
