Olive 'Tolleys Upright'
Olea europaea var. europaea
A long lived, evergreen tree with attractive, silvery-grey foliage and a grey trunk witch becomes gnarled with age. Creamy-white small flowers produced during spring are followed by green fruit witch ripen to black through summer and autumn. The olive tree has been grown for centuries, not only for it fruit, oil and timber, but it ornamental foliage and trunk as well. It makes an ideal container specimen for courtyards. Olives thrive in well drained soil in sun, and tolerate coastal exposure, drought and light frost. Avoid waterlogged soil. Maximum fruit production is achieved when watered well during flowering and fruiting formation. Ensure container plants ate watered regularly. Apply a fertiliser high in nitrogen autumn and spring.
