Sinningia Leucotricha
'Brazilian Edelweiss'
This amazing plant is one of Mother Nature's little wonders. Leucotricha produces a large above ground tuber that will continue to expand up to 20cm across in 20 or 30 years. Stunning silver-haired leaves grow on short stems with dense white fur on the new leaf growth. Bright orange/red flowers will appear in the spring period and continue to flower till early summer. Stems can be removed at any time of the year to produce new stems and flowers within weeks.
Position - Leucotricha is hardy and will do well in all climates.
Plants must be grown under shade with bulbs protected trom strong sun, otherwise the bulb will burn. Indoors plants will do well in any sunny position.
Watering - plants should be watered regularly throughout the year including winter. Plants will survive long periods without water but will not thrive. Bulbs will not grow without good feeding and watering.
Feeding - Leucotricha enjoys regular feeding at any time of the year. It can also live years without food, but will barely grow.
Repotting - young Leucotricha are best repotted each spring into new soil to grow bulb to larger size. Older plants can remain in the same pot for many years. In late winter, remove all old stems to allow new stems to form. If too many stems appear, remove excess to manage growth and appearance. Bulbs must remain above ground at all times.
